"Sky Sisters" is written by Jan Bourdeau Waboose. The book is about two Native American sisters who trudge out into the snow one night to see the Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis. The journey is special to the two Native American sisters because it is a tradition that their Mother and Aunt used to keep and now it is their turn. Through the journey you learn a little bit about the sisters culture. While the sisters watch the Northern Lights they describe it as two girls dancing in the sky and named them SkySisters.

Annotation 1: Brian Deines illustrated "Sky Sisters" by creating paintings that which accurately show the northern boreal landscape in the winter. Deines portrayed the Northern Lights using rich deep colors just as they would be in person. He also portrays a winter night, painting the animals that would be present and how the scenery would look. As the School library journal noted, “The text and pictures work together to express the sense of wonder and excitement that surrounds the phenomenon of the Northern Lights(School Library Journal, 2013).” Book Links noted that “the illustrations seem to capture the radiance and the awe of this nighttime experience (Book Links, 2013).”
Annotation 2: The major theme I chose that was represented in "Sky Sisters" was culture/tradition. The Northern Lights are also SkySpirits dancing in the sky.
