To Share later in life
6. Choose an experience you have had that you might share with your own children one day. Write a short story using this experience to explain a little more about you and your culture or background and your traditions. Once you have written the story write a few sentences explaining why you would want to tell your children this. You may draw or bring in pictures to show the story more clearly. (Level 1; Remembering)
Example of To Share Later in Life Activity:
When I was a kid I went to church camp every summer. I loved going to church camp because of all of the fun activities we did and I was able to learn more about my the religion I chose to follow. My parents are Christians and encouraged me to go to church with them and learn about God. I chose to go to church with my family every Sunday and enjoyed it so much that I chose to go to Church camp every summer as well to learn more and to have some fun. My parents had been encouraging me to get baptized in our church. One year at church camp I heard a sermon that struck me deep down. It made me think about being a Christian and reminded me that I was not yet baptized. The sermon turned on a light bulb in my head that said why am I not baptized. I thought about it and knew that I love God and believe he is my savior. We talked in a group about what it meant to get baptized and I was asked why I wanted to be baptized. It was a big decision to make but I felt very strongly that it was the right decision. I was thirteen years old when I made this decision and when I came home from church camp that summer I talked to my youth minister and my dad baptized me soon after. This time in my life is very important to me and is a big part of who I am today.
(I would tell my children about this story because it is a very big part of me. I would use the story to show my students it is up to them to decide if they want to be a Christian and if they would like to be baptized.)
